I must regretfully require that visitors who wish to contact me via the email form on this site complete the registration process first. In the past few weeks, i had a spam-bot start sending me spam through the email form so I blocked it. Another took its place a few days later, and again, and again. Now, suddenly, I am hit with nearly a dozen bots spamming me through the form. Spambots don't have access to the admin area even if they register. I do a quick QRZ on those who register with their callsigns to make sure they are legit. I don't have access to the passwords at all. If you register, your email is required for verification. I do have access to it, but I don't spam or sell the email addresses. If someone does not verify in a week, I delete the account and they can register again if they are real. Any created accounts over 90 days without logging in are subject to being deleted as well. I apologize for the inconvenience. I am looking into a protected means of displaying a contact form that does not allow access from spambots. Once in place, I will open it to the public again. One of the many things hams find fun in doing is seeking to achieve certain awards to hang on their walls or to list along with their call signs. Over the years, I have met the requirements for many such awards, but I never pursued the actual certificates. Since I have been working on this weblog (blog), I have decided to post the logs of my contacts that count towards some awards. Some of the awards are common and others are the awards you have all heard of but with a specialized twist such as the Worked All States Mobile-to-Mobile. I have added a menu option on the left to show my progress towards some of the awards. I have a question for those of you who visit my site.  Today I actually took a break from all my goings on and about and attempted a QRP CQ call in CW. I am a bit rusty from lack of practice, so I tuned down the keyer to about 12 WPM, dropped the power of my Yaesu FT857D to 4 watts, and tuned for an open frequency near the QRP watering hole at 7.060. (I goofed, the QRP Calling frequency is 7.040.)

 The weather was great, the chores were done, and Cat was away! This was the perfect opportunity for me to determine what I needed to setup my vertical antenna. After a few minutes of looking around, I discovered a 30 inch by 1 1/2 inch diameter galvanized pipe with cap, a wire brush, a can of oil and a sledge hammer. The base of the antenna fit over the galvanized pipe rather loosely but still tight enough to do the job. A closer examination of my needs revealed, much to my surprise, that I had everything I needed to set it up. Now all I needed was cooperation from my little one.

I haven't had much time lately for radioing. My baby EV has kept me pretty busy. I haven't quite gotten moved in yet as we are still unpacking boxes. I am in the process of rearranging rooms and hope to have a place for my radios to go shortly. One of my projects is to build Cat a new website so we can post pictures of the family and keep everyone updated on what's going on. I am sorry so many of you haven't heard from us. This weekend was the CQ WW DX Contest. This created and interesting atmosphere for my mobile hamming. On Friday, many of the DX operators were testing their stations and warming up their contesting skills. This provided a great opportunity for hams to pick up a few countries without a great deal of competition. I worked five DX stations between stops while delivering pizza.

I think I have most of the bugs worked out of operating mobile in my new car now. I still have to work on clearing up ignition noise and noise that may be coming from my Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which pretty much wipes out 75 meters. My Car is a 2007 Kia Spectra-5 that is equipped with two amateur radios and three amateur radio antennas.

1st Mobile Contact On Monday I completed the installation of my HF rig in my new car. The radio is a Yaesu FT-857D, 160 meters through 70 cm (excluding 1 ¼ cm), all mode radio. The antenna is an OPEK HVT-400 multi-band antenna that somewhat resembles the Outbacker Joey. My mobile log-book is an RCA digital voice recorder which interfaces with my computer. On Wednesday, I recorded my first QSO with this setup.

I installed two
